Music for the Coronation and Funeral of Queen Mary including anthems and funeral sentences by Purcell, Blow and Morley

Only six years separate Queen Mary’s joint coronation with her husband and her funeral. That the music for both endures is due to the genius of Purcell.

His music captures the spirit of these services but transcends them in ravishing choral works that are universal and profound, his revered setting of the Funeral Sentences transforming dignified sombre utterances with music of ethereal spaciousness and searing intensity. Clarity, precision and the beauty and character of each vocal line define Vox Luminis’ approach, ideally suited to recreating both the splendour and hushed introspection of these sombre state occasions.
