Ute Lemper: Last Tango in Berlin

Part of Autumn Concerts
World renowned chanteuse Ute Lemper makes a welcome return to the UK stage. The journey starts in Berlin with Ute’s root repertoire of Brecht and Weill and Berlin cabaret songs. It continues into the poetic universe of the French chansons by Brel, Piaf, Ferré and further to the Argentinian world of tango by Piazzolla. Ute walks through the backstreets of Paris, Berlin, New York and Buenos Aires and lets ancient ghosts with new faces tell the stories of the lost, of love, survival, passion, dreams, societies, the past and the future.
"Ms. Lemper interweaves songs, song fragments, personal reminiscences and social commentary into an impressionistic historical tapestry. Wearing a gleaming black cocktail dress, her eyes narrowed to slits, her sleek blonde head thrown back, she embodies the Marlene Dietrich archetype of a forbidding continental temptress who has seen it all."
Stephen Holden, New York Times
"Dressed in a black cocktail gown, with blonde hair cascading down her shoulders, Lemper towers over the room, sucking the audience in from the very beginning with her sultry voice and stately presence. Telling stories of Germany and Paris in nothing more than a whisper, Lemper launches into immaculate renditions of some of the sexiest songs ever written; exactly what you'd expect from an internationally renowned cabaret chanteuse known for keeping the torch of this music aflame."
