High points of Romantic chamber music
Haydn Piano Trio in A flat, Hob.XV.14
Mendelssohn Piano Trio No.2 in C minor
Brahms Piano Trio No.1 in B
This outstanding young ensemble brings music from the three composers perhaps most closely associated with the piano trio repertoire. Haydn’s fresh-faced piano trio precedes two of the high points of Romantic chamber music. Mendelssohn’s taut and energetic work leads to a memorable glorious hymn-like conclusion, whilst the ardently lyrical opening of Brahms’ youthful first trio is amongst the loveliest melodies he ever wrote.
‘a piano trio that already has that vital combination of unanimity of ensemble and musicianship, plus plenty of individual character and vitality’
