One of the world’s greatest quartets

Mozart Quartet in D major K575 25′
Dvořák Quartet in E flat major Op.51 35′
Mendelssohn Quartet in F minor Op.80 27′

The Takács Quartet is renowned for its illuminating combination of detail and the warmth, freshness and vitality of their interpretations. Mendelssohn’s last major composition is potent with furious energy and elegiac song. Mozart’s last quartets inhabit a sunnier realm, free-spirited music of intimate simplicity. Between these two extremes is Dvořák, whose quartet bears an unmistakably Czech imprint – amongst the folk-dances and pastoral serenity a gentle, Slavic melancholy seems never too far below the surface.

‘revealing the familiar as unfamiliar, making the most traditional of works feel radical once more.’
