Sir Bryn Terfel’s powers of vocal characterisation are familiar to every opera-goer. But those powers extend into the more concentrated world of lieder too: Terfel is ‘not afraid to take us right into his interpretations’, said Gramophone of his Schubert. Malcolm Martineau has collaborated regularly with Terfel throughout his career, and it’s hard to imagine a more sympathetic partner in a programme that ranges from late Brahms to Britten’s folk settings.
