‘Hannigan sings the songs of Erik Satie as if she’s sitting next to you, whispering and cooing across the kitchen table’

The Guardian

Barbara Hannigan’s long term collaboration with distinguished Reinbert de Leeuw continues to produce revelatory results. Their ecstatically received recording of Satie’s songs opened up new insights into this most enigmatic and original of composers.

The piano solo works of the first half are achingly melancholic, their soft-edged harmonies floating with weightless simplicity. The Plato song-drama Socrate that follows is a masterpiece of exquisite restraint – music of warmth, sincerity and hypnotic beauty.
