Snape Maltings Concert Hall
Part of Aldeburgh Festival
Julia Bullock’s rich soprano combines with a voice of social consciousness and activism that underpins her work as an artist.
What began as a programme of Joséphine Baker’s cabaret songs in a recital at the Met Museum in New York has been transformed into an intimate tribute to the life and legacy of the world-renowned singer, dancer, French Resistance agent and civil rights activist.
This collaboration of re-composed songs, spoken word, movement and music offers ‘a singular theatrical experience brimming with grief, resilience, and fury’ (San Francisco Classical Voice).
‘a musician who delights in making her own rules’
The New Yorker on Julia Bullock
