The artistic partnership of Peter Pears and Benjamin Britten remains a living presence at the Festival, and this beautifully-compiled concert is derived from their recital programmes. At its heart is love: the cycle that Schumann called ‘my most romantic’ and Fauré’s startlingly ardent celebration of a love fulfilled, La bonne chanson. Arrangements by Britten himself open and close the evening, but Mark Padmore and Roger Vignoles are two artists who renew everything they touch, on their own profoundly insightful terms.
