Part of The Pumphouse

OUTLYA unite archive film with a live score inspired by the events of the North Sea Flood of 1953 that caused catastrophic damage and loss of life to Belgium, Holland and the East Coast of the UK. A stone’s throw away from The Pumphouse is the beachhead which was once home to the now lost village of Slaughden from which one of the songs from the piece takes its name.

2019 has brought in a new focus on the realities of environmental disasters caused by climate change which are already affecting millions across the world. 1953 is a reflection on these local stories and hopes to ask what we can learn from them
