Open Session - The 12 Ensemble

Wednesday 16 Aug 2017 9:33pm

The 12 ensemble has rapidly established itself as one of the UK’s leading string orchestras. Performing un-conducted, the group creates performances that are as intimate, dedicated and dynamic as that of a string quartet but with the breathtaking sound of twelve of London’s most exciting young chamber musicians.

For their 2017 Residency at Snape Maltings, they’ll be spending a week working intensively on a new collaboration with internationally acclaimed contemporary choreographer Alexander Whitley (Royal Ballet, Rambert), creating a new work for solo male dancer set to John Woolrich’s Ulysses Awakes for solo viola and strings. During the Open Session the ensemble will present the new dance work alongside performing a programme of works by Witold Lutosławski, John Tavener, and Bryce Dessner.
