Stravinsky The Rite of Spring 33’

The heavens and the earth – Tom Adès’ intoxicating programme combines richly evocative music derived from powerful natural forces. His own Polaris – named after the north star, that celestial reference point for sailors down the centuries – ebbs and flows like the tide, conjuring music of delicacy and grandeur. Stravinsky’s famous ballet serves as a lodestar for all twentieth century music. It is a thrilling journey of ritual and rebirth, a sound-picture of the terrifying primeval forces unleashed by the coming of spring after a savage Russian winter.
