A musical tour from the mountain to the sea
George Benjamin conductor
Tamara Stefanovich piano
Mussorgsky Night on the Bare Mountain 12’
George Benjamin Dance Figures 15’
Ravel Piano Concerto for the Left Hand 18’
Ligeti Lontano 11’
Debussy La Mer 23’
A concert that revels in the glorious variety of sounds and moods conjured by a huge symphony orchestra, from Debussy’s gorgeous sonic seascape to the fire and fury of Mussorgsky’s Witches Sabbath. George Benjamin’s music for dance flickers, surges and sings whilst Ligeti’s eerie study in extreme quiet was perfectly appropriated by Stanley Kubrick in The Shining. Into this kaleidoscope of orchestral sounds burst the martial flourishes of Ravel’s thrilling concerto.
