(ends approx. 5.20pm)
Bach throws his light, by turns dazzling and warmly radiant, over this UK recital debut from Michael Barenboim, though Bartók’s fusion of virtuosity and heart-on-sleeve emotion brings no easy resolution. Fragments of letters written by the Polish writer and artist Bruno Schulz lie unseen behind Michael Hersch’s new work and Barenboim gives the first performance of music by his close friend and collaborator Johannes Borowski.
