The field of chamber music and song, says Matthew Rose, is ‘where my affinities lie’. His performance of Barber’s Dover Beach will form the heart of this recital with the Albion Quartet, but Rose is passionately committed to new music, and he sets Barber’s dark beauty against Kate Whitley’s brand new settings of the folk-flavoured, proto-modernist poetry of Charlotte Mew and a world premiere by Aldeburgh Young Musician Dominic Wills. Mid-century quartets by Copland and Walton form an attractive frame.
