Snape Maltings Concert Hall
Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra and music by Shostakovich and Pärt.
The London Philharmonic Orchestra makes a welcome second visit to Snape this summer, this time under the baton of rising young conductor, Alpesh Chauhan. Opening with Britten’s wonderful and ever-popular showpiece, the programme also includes Pärt’s sweeping strings and doleful bell chimes, reflecting the composer’s sadness at Britten’s death. Shostakovich’s Sixth Symphony, premiered in 1939, begins in slow, contemplative mood before culminating in a fun and energetic finale.
