The piano is in the centre of the darkened auditorium, the performer in our midst. Cushions and mattresses are available to sit on as close as we want to the piano.
Liszt the composer-performer; showman, Romantic, radical. His music and his legendary virtuosity inspired – at least in part – Kloing! heard earlier. But Marino Formenti’s programme sheds new light on all facets of his musical personality from the poetic and the spiritual to daring innovation. Placed alongside the music of today makes for a stimulating contrast and context – a labyrinth of interconnected music, a dialogue between composers and eras and a dazzling and diverse journey that circles around this giant of the 19th-century piano.
