The soprano who inspired the music of Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen deserves to be better known. This talk focusses on the biographical background to Mahler’s song cycle, looking at letters the composer sent to his friends about Johanna Richter.

The talk is illustrated by Britten–Pears Young Artists.
