Gilbert O’Sullivan’s 19th album sees the Irish-born stellar singer-songwriter on vintage form. His trademark remains unaltered and all the better for that – ingenious songs shot through with nostalgia, gentle melancholy and impish humour. The material is timeless, the man himself ageless.
O’Sullivan remains a troubadour for our times though, with his most recent subject matter mining gems from topics as diverse as transatlantic politics and the distractions of technology. And always tales of love gained and lost. Coupled with irresistibly catchy melodies, lyrics to prick the conscience and all delivered in those signature plaintive vocals, it’s a reminder of a master-craftsman at work.
