Friends' Annual Reception with James Naughtie

Sunday 16 June, 1pm-3pm

Part of Friends Events

We are most grateful to the Red House for kindly hosting our 2019 Friends Annual Reception in their stunning grounds. We will be joined by our very special guest, James Naughtie. A keen admirer of Britten, James has regularly presented explorations of his work on radio and has written passionately about him in his book, The New Elizabethans. James will be telling us more about the how Britten and the BBC worked together to bring modern classical music to new audiences.

As we spend time in the beautiful gardens, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch and drinks. Ahead of the evening concert, the Archive are very kindly putting on a special display of sources relating to Britten’s Hymn to St Cecilia, his setting of WH Auden’s poem of the same name. You’ll be welcome to visit the Archive to view these sources in small groups.
