This walk starts at Butley Mills, by the reed-choked Butley Creek. We visit two connected churches at Chillesford and Wantisden, both notable for being built partly from Coralline Crag, a stone unique to Suffolk. The quarry for both buildings lies behind Chillesford church.

After lunch, we visit one of Suffolk’s natural treasures, Staverton Thicks. Marvel at this magical woodland of ancient oak, holly and silver birch, known to have been in existence in the 14th century.

Suitable clothing and footwear essential. 6.5 miles, fairly easy going. Sorry, no dogs allowed. Please let us know any dietary requirements.
