Feldman For Philip Guston 300′

(ends approx. 9.30am)

‘To sit through a performance of For Philip Guston is to enter into a new consciousness’ writes Alex Ross in The Rest is Noise, and any performance of Feldman‘s five-hour memorial to his estranged friend demands commitment. Cosmic in scope, but constructed from simple and alluring musical elements, it’s a journey, says Ross, to ‘a far off place that few travellers will chance upon’. Starting just before dawn, the audience encircle the performers seated or lying on mattresses and cushions leaving the music to work its wondrous transformation.
