Exhibition: John Keane - Film for Britten: Canticle III
Sun 16 Jun - Sun 23 JunFree Event
Open daily, 10am to the start of the evening concert
John Keane created this film projection for a stage production of Britten’s Canticles performed in Brighton, Aldeburgh and the Royal Opera House Linbury Studio in 2013. Archive Blitz footage and fragments of Keane’s own Gulf War video are layered onto images of Grunewald’s Isenheim crucifixion in a painterly montage that resonates powerfully with the words of Edith Sitwell and the music of Benjamin Britten.
Production commissioned by Snape Maltings and the Brighton Festival, directed by Neil Bartlett and Paule Constable. The Poem ‘Still Falls the Rain’ is by Edith Sitwell.
