A gem of baroque opera

James Conway director
Peter Whelan conductor

Handel Radamisto (New production, sung in Italian with English surtitles)

A dramatic story of a royal family in old Armenia locked in mortal conflict, Radamisto champions faithfulness and married love, but also has a fine gallery of moral depravity and intolerance. A moving and accessible piece of music theatre, it was one of Handel’s most popular operas in his lifetime, not least for its famous aria ‘Ombra cara’, which stunned audiences and was sung in drawing rooms for decades thereafter.
