The renowned opera soprano sings songs by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and composers who influenced him including Puccini and Brahms.
Soprano Elizabeth Llewellyn gives a recital celebrating composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (1875-1912), a composer of English and Sierra Leonean parents who in the later years of his short life wrote pieces fusing melodies and lyrics inspired by his African heritage and a rich, late-Romantic classical sound-world. Joined by her regular collaborator, pianist Simon Lepper, Llewellyn sings a selection of the composer’s songs alongside those of his those of his teacher, Charles Villiers Stanford, and two composers Coleridge-Taylor particularly admired – Puccini and Brahms.
