Virtuoso soloist, collaborator, educator and curator Claire Chase is an inspirational trailblazer for her instrument and for new music of all styles. In 2013 she embarked on an epic commissioning and performance adventure, performing a brand new solo programme each year until 2036, the centenary of Varèse’s iconic Density 21.5 for solo flute.

This programme celebrates the project so far. Varèse and the glittering propulsion of Steve Reich frame first European performances of recent works from an eclectic selection of New Yorkers. It concludes with the most recent commission, a suite drawn from Marcus Balter’s operatic scale work for flute, electronics and the community in which it’s performed – the evocatively titled PAN.
