The music of friends: Schumann and the young Brahms revealed different facets of themselves when in company, and these rare performances of their vocal quartets create an enchanting context for this recital. Britten and Korngold engaged with the German lieder tradition from very different angles: Britten finds quiet rapture, while the young Korngold deploys the full, glowing palette of Viennese late romanticism to masterly effect.
