Powerful music for solo piano including Pictures at an Exhibition
In 1986 Barry Douglas won the International Tchaikovsky Competition, the first non-Russian pianist to receive the prize since 1958. His debut album featured Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, and he has always retained his love of Russian music. Here he plays Mussorgsky’s richly characterised pieces inspired by paintings, beautiful short pieces by Tchaikovsky and Schubert, and one of Beethoven’s most moving piano sonatas.
