Singer, songwriter, cellist, arranger, composer… Ayanna’s open-hearted and eclectic sets are difficult to pigeon-hole and very difficult to forget.
Participation in the London Symphony Orchestra’s young composer scheme and a MOBO-nomination somehow sit comfortably side by side on an already-impressive roster of achievements. Her strikingly original songs blend soulful vocals, an R&B sensibility and uncompromising lyrics, while her classical trained cello playing lends intimacy and layered intricacy to her music. This show features brand new material from a rare new talent as well as songs she wrote as an Esmée Fairbairn Foundation Open Space artist here at Snape.
‘… a huge talent … like a young Cassandra Wilson would have sounded if she also happened to be a fine cellist.’
All sessions in the Festival of New last about an hour.
Food will be available in the Concert Hall Café on Friday and Saturday 10am – 7.30pm. The Britten Studio Bar opens an hour prior to the evening performances and will stay open afterwards.
