Ambassadors for Irish traditional music for over three decades, Altan are steeped in the old Gaelic singing styles and dazzling fiddle jigs and reels of the founders’ Donegal roots. They seem to embody the musical spirit of their native Ireland whilst embracing a truly international outlook – keeping the tradition alive by refreshing and reimagining it. Their live sets, now tinged with bluegrass and American roots music, bristle with instrumental virtuosity and seduce with touching old Irish songs. They are one of Celtic music’s great live bands.
