Aldeburgh Voices - James MacMillan: Stabat Mater
Sat 11 Apr 2020 2pmFrom £5.00 to £18.00
Part of Easter Weekend
The sorrowing of Christ’s mother has long drawn impassioned responses from composers, and James MacMillan’s setting for choir, soloists and string orchestra has already been hailed as a 21st-century masterpiece. It balances intense anguish with passages of glowing ethereal beauty, with solo voices and instruments emerging from the darkness.
Britten’s Purcell transcription and a Holy Week motet serve as a contemplative prelude.
