When We Collide: A British Songbook
Saturday 23 Mar 2019 5pm
With the help of 25 community choirs from across the UK, Hanbury & Groves have written a new British Songbook.
Choirs from all walks of life, including NHS workers, LGBTQ+ communities, inner-city choirs, ex-fishermen and school children have contributed to the lyrics, and the songbook as a whole tries to capture the UK in 2018, creating a snapshot in song of our communities.
As part of the project’s nationwide premieres, the first Suffolk performances feature choirs from our region learning these new songs together before presenting them in an informal short concert at the end of an afternoon of mass choral singing.
The songbook will be completed in Autumn 2018 with the music, audio recordings and learning guides free to download online at www.whenwecollide.co.uk/snape.
When We Collide: A British Songbook, was commissioned and funded by Sky Arts as part of Art 50, an initiative to fund 50 new pieces of art across the country and across all disciplines exploring what it means to be British today. When We Collide has additional funding from Arts Council England and with support from Snape Maltings.
