Opera Arias

Artists: Antonio Pappano, Julia Faulkner, Pamela Bullock

Series: Aldeburgh Festival, Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme

Ideas explored: professional development for musicians

The BPYAP Opera Arias course was an in-depth exploration of operatic repertoire, led by Antonio Pappano, Pamela Bullock and Julia Faulkner over the course of a week during the Aldeburgh Festival 2019.

18 young artists of nine nationalities came together for private coaching with the three acclaimed tutors, and each afternoon an audience joined us for public masterclasses coached by Antonio Pappano.

The six pianists on the course had prepared La Boheme in advance and had daily morning sessions working with Antonio Pappano and Pamela Bullock on this repertoire. Phenomenal voice teacher Julia Faulkner supported the singers in 1:1 lessons throughout the week.

In addition to coaching, the young artists also had the opportunity to engage in a Question & Answer session with the tutors, watch festival concerts and perform in Song Moments at the Red House in Aldeburgh.

The culmination was a final recital in the Britten Studio as part of the Aldeburgh Festival.
