Daisy Evans

As director of Silent Opera, Daisy Evans used Open Space to create and rehearse a new production Live/ Revive/ Lament, a trio of short operatic installations and a unique new exploration of opera and music theatre in the modern world, which was premiered at the 2014 Aldeburgh Festival.

Live explored the joy of new love, Revive the complications and deep seated doubts, and Lament the aftermath. Three performers from different vocal disciplines – opera, improvisation and contemporary song – interpreted the music of Monteverdi and combined live, electronic and pre-recorded music at different locations around our site.

"The Aldeburgh Open Space scheme was an amazing opportunity for me to create an ambitious and compelling project. It allowed me the space and time to really develop the work itself with the exact resources I needed. In the calm and beautiful surroundings of Aldeburgh and the Maltings, my company and I were able to produce high quality work. The time allowance meant we could try things out, review them and work on them without feeling constrained by budget or obligation. Without the residency, we would not be making the cutting edge work we have continued to produce."
