Our first dedicated conducting course gives aspiring young conductors the chance to work 1:1 with Marin Alsop, ground-breaking Music Director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and São Paulo Symphony Orchestra.
Marin Alsop is one of today’s highest-profile and most influential musicians, whose passion has nurtured the next generation of audiences, orchestral players and conductors. With the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra through initiatives such as ‘OrchKids’ and in her masterclasses series for women conductors at the Southbank Centre, she has continued to provide unique inspiration.
A small number of conductors in the early stages of their careers will work with Marin in piano and chamber sessions before conducting the Britten–Pears Orchestra in repertoire including Prokofiev’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’, ‘Peter and the Wolf’ and Saint-Saens’ ‘Carnival of the Animals’.
A particular focus of this course will be the preparation, presentation and conducting of high-quality concerts for young people and families – an essential experience and skill for every conductor.
Alongside a public performance opportunity in Snape’s acclaimed Britten Studio and video recordings of all sessions, participants will benefit from career mentoring sessions with Roger Wright (Chief Executive of Snape Maltings, previously Head of the BBC Proms and Radio 3) and leading figures from some of the UK’s major orchestras and leading artist management agencies.
Places available: 4 active participants, 6 auditors.
