1 – 11 July 2019
Colin Matthews, Mark-Anthony Turnage, Claire Booth course directors
Duncan Ward, Jessica Cottis conductors
Established in 1992 by Oliver Knussen and Colin Matthews, this course for composers, instrumentalists and singers has been a flagship course within the programme and many of its alumni have gone on to become internationally established composers. Six emerging composers will be invited to create a c. 5’ piece, which is workshopped daily by the ensemble and singers. Alongside, the 16 instrumentalists and 4 singers will explore 20th & 21st century repertoire under the guidance of hugely experienced and knowledgeable tutors, including Zoë Martlew, Melinda Maxwell, Michael Thompson, Benjamin Powell and Sam Walton. The course culminates in a concert at Snape Maltings and participants will be invited to perform the new works in the 2020 Aldeburgh Festival. Final Concert Thu 11 July 4pm, Britten Studio, Snape
