Head of Retail Operations

Full time, 40 hours, permanent, c£45k

Snape Maltings is one of East Anglia’s leading visitor destinations and our shops, galleries and cafes attract around half a million people each year. Snape is situated on the banks of the River Alde, within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Our shop is the home of carefully selected product ranges for house and garden, as well as an interesting range of food, clothing, books and stationery, and items for little ones, all beautifully displayed. Visual merchandising is a key strength and priority for the business. Our talented buying team source products which focus on design, provenance and difference.

SMTL is the commercial subsidiary of the newly merged charity Britten Pears Arts, which is based at Snape Maltings and at the Red House in Aldeburgh. All profits from the shops and cafes go towards funding Britten Pears Arts, one of the UK’s leading cultural organisations.

To be successful in this role you will be a dedicated and experienced retail operations manager, having managed large teams in a fast-paced retail environment. You will be able to apply this experience to our brand, and will recognise that whilst we have the same exacting standards we pride ourselves on our distinctiveness. We are not a high street retailer. You will be an emotionally intelligent, collaborative leader with demonstrable experience of inspiring retail teams to maximise sales and deliver excellent customer service.

You will have a flexible approach to work, leading by example and covering, as required, weekends, bank holidays and the many special events held at Snape. This role will suit individuals who prefer to take the pulse of the shop-floor and experience customer service first-hand by being present on the salesfloor.
